IASI Level 2 alpine

The Level 2 Ski Instructor qualification is the second tier in the alpine ski instruction pathway. Holders of this award are qualified to work in mountain environments, primarily within snow schools at alpine resorts, adhering to the rules and regulations of the country where they operate.


  • Teaching all levels from beginners to parallel turns
  •  Working with both children and adults
  • Always working under the supervision of the snow school
  • Staying within piste boundaries at all times

Skiing Standards for Level 2 Qualification:


  • A minimum skiing ability of IASI Level 1 qualified instructors
  • Prior experience skiing in mountain environments is essential 
  • Experience with dry or indoor slopes is highly beneficial
  • Ability to execute short, controlled linked turns at a consistent speed 
  • Proficiency in long carved turns with two clean lines influencing turn shape 
  • Competence in turns on variable snow conditions, controlled linked turns, and small moguls on blue pistes 
  • Demonstrate all elements of progression in skiing techniques


Course Overview:


  • During the 6-day course, you will learn fundamental teaching principles which include
  • Basic skiing techniques and their progression (snowplough, plough parallel, basic parallel turns
  • Understanding core performance principles in skiing
  • Classroom management and safety awareness
  • Demonstrations to illustrate progression
  • FIS safety code of conduct and safety protocols for teaching beginners in mountain resorts
  • Mountain awareness, weather considerations, and leadership skills


Throughout the course, you will receive extensive feedback on your performance in areas such as teaching, demonstration, safety, personal skiing, and knowledge. Video analysis and off-snow lectures/discussions will help develop your skills, providing insights on transitioning from an aspiring instructor to a professional in mountain snowsports.

Additional Modules which must be completed around the exam time and are valid for applying for your license or certification.


  • IASI Level 1 Licence: Must be current and updated before the course
  • Valid first aid course
  • CRB (Criminal records check) certificate

     
  • Cost: £675.00 - 6 Days
  • Entry: IASI Level 1 Alpine Ski Instructor or equivalent
  • Minimum: 5 Persons for course to run - maximum 10
    PRICE DOES NOT INCLUDE LIFT PASS, ACCOMMODATION AND TRAVEL.

 

Preparation & Experience:

  •  It is strongly recommended to have accumulated at least 70 hours of teaching or shadowing lessons prior to the course, logged with IASI  
  • Prior experience in teaching and skiing will greatly enhance your readiness for the qualification

Information on Hafjell
Hafjell is the home of the Slalom and GS in 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics. Hafjell has wide and varied amount of often empty slopes, with amazing conditions season long. A short drive gets you to Kvitfjell (on the same lift pass) home of the World Cup and Olympic Downhill. Hafjell and Kvitfjell will host the season World Cup finals in 2026 such is the quality of the terrain and snow.
 

Hafjell is very easy to get to from UK and mainland Europe through Oslo Gardermoen Airport with direct trains to Lillehammer or an easy 1.50 hour drive from the Airport. Accommodation is plenty and in general, much cheaper than the alps. Hafjell is snow sure. Lift passes are also cheaper than most alpine resorts.
